The 1998 Honda Accord was the first model year of the sixth generation. Sedans entered mass production in August 1997 and reached customers from September 23, 1997, while the coupe went on sale on November 4, 1997 with its own front fascia and rear lights that resembled the NSX. For the 1998 model year the sedan was offered in DX, LX, LX-V6, EX and EX-V6 trims, with a 135 bhp 2.3 liter engine in the DX, a 150 bhp VTEC in the LX and EX, and a 200 bhp V6. Japanese models were introduced on September 4, 1997. About 1,200 mid sized U.S. sedans were assembled in New Zealand before that factory closed.
