The 1980 model year is a model year of the second-generation Civic, in which the North American 1300 and 1500 each came in base and DX forms. The two engines kept CVCC-type cylinder heads, but the 1500 could no longer meet United States emissions standards without a small two-way catalytic converter, so cars with it required unleaded fuel. In Japan a sport grade called CX-S, with a sunroof, joined the line in 1980, and a minor facelift arrived in late 1980.
