The 2000 model year is the last of the sixth generation. Tilt steering became standard on the CX. In Canada a DX Special Edition hatchback was sold for the 2000 model year alone, fitted with 14-inch mesh wheels, mirrors and moldings in the body color, a mid-wing and a Special badge. New US colors this year included Vintage Plum Pearl and Titanium Metallic on the sedan. In Australia the VTi-R hatchback body was no longer offered and the VTi-R was sold as a two-door coupe. The seventh generation debuted in September 2000.
