In 1976 the first-generation Civic became the first Honda car assembled outside Japan, when importer New Zealand Motor Corporation began assembling a 1.2 litre three-door manual from knock-down kits at its Petone plant near Wellington. In the United States, the advertising used to introduce the Civic after 1976 carried the line Honda, we make it simple, replacing the earlier What the world is coming to, and that tagline ran until the 1984 model year. No other change specific to the 1976 model year is recorded in the sources used for this page.
