Honda introduced the second generation Legend on October 24, 1990, and both a sedan and a coupe remained in the lineup. In Japan it was also known as the Super Legend due to the much larger 3.2 liter C32A engine, which was now the only engine offered, with the Type I rated at 215 PS and the Type II at 235 PS. A passenger side airbag was added, and the Japanese 1990 Legend became just the second car offered with a navigation system, the Electro Gyrocator. Trim level designations were changed to Alpha for the top level vehicle and Beta for the lower grade.
