Honda first showed the ZR-V as a third generation HR-V, set apart from the global model, during an American unveiling on 4 April 2022, with sales beginning on 7 June 2022 as a 2023 model. GAC Honda produced the Chinese ZR-V, shown in May 2022, with a 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine. Mexico began selling the ZR-V on 14 June 2022 in Uniq, Sport and Touring trims, and Japan's ZR-V, announced in July 2022, went on sale on 8 September 2022 and for a time replaced the CR-V.
