The second generation Honda HR-V was previewed by the Urban SUV Concept, shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2013, and then presented at the Tokyo show that November under the name Vezel. Production began in late 2013 for the Japanese domestic market, and the Japanese Vezel went on sale on 20 December 2013 with a conventional petrol and a hybrid powertrain. Its width goes past the 1,700 mm limit of Japan's size rules, so buyers in Japan pay higher yearly taxes.
