The 4 speed automatic transmission in the 1999 to 2001 Honda Odyssey models had serious problems with transmission durability, which Honda spokesman Mike Spencer attributed to a bad bearing that could break apart and clog the transmission's fluid passageways. Honda answered by lengthening the transmission warranty, and a class action settlement later pushed coverage out to 109,000 miles on some 1999 to 2001 Odysseys in the US. In late 2001 the 2002 model year Odyssey followed with a significant increase in power.
