Sri Lanka Railways S10

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

Sri Lanka Railways S10 is a class of diesel-electric multiple unit train sets built for Sri Lanka Railways by the China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation and imported in 2008, when fifteen sets were ordered to strengthen commuter services on crucial lines. At nearly 2,000 horsepower the class has the power for quick acceleration. The engine uses common rail diesel injection, the generator's alternating current is converted to direct current for the traction motors, and a computer system and a touch-sensitive display serve the driver. Up to three sets can be coupled together. The interiors are third class only and the class runs on any line except the Kelani Valley Line, whose tight curves the long coach bodies cannot pass.
