MARTA CQ311

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The MARTA CQ311 is a series of 120 electric rail cars built by Hitachi for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the rapid transit system of Atlanta, Georgia. Sources differ on the dates: the English Wikipedia article on Hitachi Rail says Hitachi's rail division delivered the 120 CQ311 series railcars to MARTA between 1984 and 1988, while the railfanning.org encyclopedia gives the build as 1982 to 1985. MARTA's own system article describes the fleet as married pair rail cars powered by an electrified third rail, and states that in 2002 Alstom was contracted to overhaul 98 CQ310 cars and all 120 CQ311 cars as part of a 246 million dollar refurbishment contract. The rehabilitated cars began service on March 12, 2006, and the work was completed on February 23, 2009. In March 2019 MARTA awarded Stadler Rail a contract for up to 354 new CQ400 cars, which are to replace the CQ310, CQ311 and CQ312 fleets.
