Ghana Railways 1300 series DMUs

The Ghana Railways 1300 series are diesel-electric multiple units manufactured by CRRC Tangshan in China for the Ghana Railway Company, designed for shuttle service between Accra and Tema on the Achimota to Tema branch line. The company ordered two units from the Tangshan plant of China CNR in 2008 for 23 million dollars to replace locomotive-hauled trains. They were built in 2009, shipped from the port of Tianjin and entered service in October 2010. Each unit has six cars, two motor cars with Bo-Bo axle arrangement and four trailers, and uses an AC-DC-AC electric transmission with traction converters from Vossloh Kiepe, motors and gearboxes from Voith and a Caterpillar diesel engine in each motor car rated at 618 kilowatts. Design speed is 90 kilometres per hour and operating speed 80, and a whole unit weighs about 254 tonnes. The units stopped running in July 2022 when the line was closed for rehabilitation, and one derailed at Alajo in Accra in October 2017 with minor injuries.
