China Railway CR220J

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The CR220J is a prototype Chinese electric multiple unit of the Fuxing family, developed and manufactured by several CRRC subsidiaries as part of the China Standardized EMU family, with an operating speed of 200 km/h. It is a further development of the CR200J platform and, unlike most Chinese multiple units, concentrates traction in one or two power cars hauling unpowered carriages, as the German ICE 1 and ICE 2 and the French TGV do. Each power car, designated FXD1D-J or FXD3D-J, has a traction power of 7200 kW. Design finished and manufacturing began in mid-2023; in 2024 the first power cars were tested and the CR220J1 and CR220J3 prototypes went to the China Academy of Railway Sciences test centre in Beijing, then to Chengdu for tests on conventional lines. Trailers are the 20AA type from CRRC Tangshan and the 20AB type from CRRC Nanjing Puzhen.
