The BR Standard Class 3 2-6-2T was a class of steam tank locomotive designed by Robert Riddles for British Railways, the tank counterpart of the Standard Class 3 2-6-0. It was a hybrid design, with a chassis closely based on the LMS Ivatt Class 4 and a boiler derived from the GWR No. 2 boiler, and design and construction took place at the former Great Western Railway Swindon Works. From new the engines were based on the Western, Southern, North Eastern and London Midland Regions, but most of their branch line work soon disappeared with the introduction of diesel multiple units. Locomotives 82045 to 82062 were planned but cancelled. None of the originals survived, and a charity is building a new 82045.
