Yarrow Shipbuilders, often called simply Yarrows, was a major shipbuilding firm based at Scotstoun in Glasgow on the River Clyde. Alfred Yarrow founded it in 1865 as Yarrow and Company at Poplar in London, where it built hundreds of steam launches and lake and river vessels and the Royal Navy first destroyers of the Havock class. It also made a water-tube boiler that carried his name. Outgrowing its London yard, the firm moved to a new site at Scotstoun from 1906, and the first vessel launched there in July 1908 was a destroyer for the Brazilian Navy. It gained a reputation for building fast warships and is now part of BAE Systems Surface Ships, which BAE Systems owns.
