Thomas Built Buses is an American maker of yellow school buses and related activity and commercial buses, based in High Point, North Carolina. It began in 1916 as the Perley A. Thomas Car Works, which first rebuilt and then built streetcars, started producing school buses in 1936 and took its present name in 1972. It was the last major school bus maker still under family control until Freightliner bought it from the Thomas family in October 1998, which put it inside DaimlerChrysler and later Daimler Trucks North America. Besides bus bodies it builds its own chassis for the Saf-T-Liner EFX and HDX buses.
