China Railway

China Railway, formally the China State Railway Group, is the state owned company that operates and manages railway transport and infrastructure across mainland China. It traces its origins to the Ministry of Railways, established on January 19, 1950, and was reorganized into its current corporate form on June 18, 2019, with headquarters in Haidian, Beijing. Through 18 regional bureaus the company runs both passenger and freight services over a network of roughly 139,900 kilometers of track, including the China Railway High-speed network, which by 2020 had grown to nearly 38,000 kilometers, representing about two thirds of all the high speed rail in commercial service anywhere in the world. China has the highest railway ridership of any country, and China Railway employed around 2 million people as of 2013, reporting revenue of about 1.245 trillion yuan in 2023 from a business spanning coal, freight, express parcels and high speed and conventional passenger trains.
