British Airways plc is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, based in London, England. It is headquartered at the Waterside building, adjacent to its main hub at Heathrow Airport, and it is the second largest UK-based carrier by fleet size and passengers carried. In January 2011 it merged with Iberia to create the International Airlines Group. British Airways was the first passenger airline to generate more than 1 billion US dollars on a single air route in a year. It was formed on 31 March 1974 by merging four companies and was privatised in February 1987. It is recorded here as an operator of the Concorde transatlantic service.
