Blériot Aéronautique was the French aircraft firm of Louis Blériot, who made headlights before turning to aviation. In July 1909 Blériot flew his Type XI monoplane across the English Channel, which made him famous and led to orders for several hundred copies. The company built military aircraft in the First World War and a range of airliners afterwards, and in time it was merged into the nationalised French aircraft industry.
