Honda introduced the CRF230L in 2008 as an entry level dual sport that was street legal from the factory but kept a design aimed at dirt, with full lighting and electric starters, and outside the United States it was sold as the XR230L. The CRF230M, brought in during 2008, was the first supermoto version of the original dual sport, with black body panels, frame and wheels, 17 inch wheels at the front and rear and an aluminum handlebar.
