Honda introduced the Valkyrie in 1997 as the GL1500C, called F6C elsewhere, first as a naked Standard and later with a Tourer model, which added a windshield and lockable hard saddlebags and was designated GL1500CT. The idea of an American cruiser style motorcycle powered by a flat six came from Josef Boyd. Honda built the Valkyrie in the United States, at its motorcycle plant in Marysville, Ohio.
