In 1985 Honda shortened the overall gearing of the GL1200 to improve performance, with many small changes to the Interstate but atypically the same price as the previous year. Honda also celebrated ten years of the Gold Wing with a limited edition painted gold, the GL1200L, with cruise control, auto leveling rear suspension, an electronic trip computer and Honda's programmed fuel injection; 5,372 were built, sold in North America alone.
