Honda introduced the Super Dio (AF27) in 1991 as the second Dio generation, with an entirely new chassis design and more aerodynamic bodywork. Early AF27 models went on using the AF18E engine, with a 12 mm crankshaft and about 6.8 PS, and a CDI unit that limited speed was introduced to comply with Japanese rules restricting the maximum speed of mopeds. Honda released the Super Dio SR (AF28) the same year, with revised styling, updated suspension and a disc brake at the front.
