The Africa Twin began in 1988 as the XRV650, a lighter, higher specification version made by Honda Racing Corporation, featuring a 650 cc engine producing 42 kW and chain transmission. Europe first sold the original V-twin Africa Twin in 1988. It was based on the NXR-750, which won the Paris-Dakar rally four times in the late eighties. This page belongs to the Honda Africa Twin (XRV650), 1988 to 1989 model years; the generation page and the Honda Africa Twin model page link to the other model years, so the changes of neighbouring years can be read in order.
