The Dornier Do 29 of 1934 was a proposed heavy fighter that Dornier designed as a competitor to the Messerschmitt Bf 110. It answered the Reich Air Ministry requirement of autumn 1934 for a heavy fighter and was highly derivative of the earlier Do 17. The estimated design called for one crew member, a length of 15.35 metres, a wingspan of 17.56 metres and Bramo 323 nine-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engines of 628 kilowatts, with an estimated top speed of 460 kilometres per hour and an armament of six 7.92 mm MG 17 machine guns in the nose plus one MG 15 machine gun mounted dorsally. The design was rejected before the prototype stage and work stopped in 1936. The Do 29 designation was reused after the Second World War for an unrelated experimental V/STOL aircraft, which is why the year follows the number in the name used here.
