Boeing P-12

Military Aircraft

The Boeing P-12, also called the Boeing F4B, was an American biplane fighter flown by the United States Army Air Corps, the Marine Corps and the Navy. It was the chief fighter of American service in the early 1930s and was also used abroad. Boeing developed it as a private venture, the Model 99, to replace the F2B and F3B for the Navy, and it first flew on 25 June 1928. It was smaller, lighter and more agile than the aircraft it replaced yet kept the Pratt and Whitney Wasp engine. Newer designs replaced it in front-line duty by the late 1930s, and a handful of surviving airframes are on display in museums.
