Grumman C-1 Trader

Military Aircraft

The Grumman C-1 Trader, called the TF before 1962, is the carrier onboard delivery version of the S-2 Tracker, with an enlarged fuselage able to carry nine passengers or 3,500 pounds of cargo. It grew out of a Navy need for a new anti-submarine airplane and first flew in January 1955, entering service in 1956. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s it carried mail and supplies to aircraft carriers on station in the Pacific during the Vietnam War. Grumman built 87 over its production life, four of which were converted into EC-1A Tracer electronic countermeasures aircraft, and the last C-1 left Navy service in 1988, replaced by the C-2 Greyhound.
