The CASA/IPTN CN-235 is a medium-range twin-turboprop tactical transport developed jointly by the Spanish company CASA and Indonesia's IPTN, whose Airtech International joint venture was formed in October 1979. The prototype made its maiden flight on 11 November 1983 and the aircraft entered regular service on 1 March 1988. It is used both as a regional airliner and as a military transport, with air transport and aerial surveillance among its main military roles. In the early arrangement roughly 65 percent of each aircraft was built at Bandung in Indonesia and 35 percent at Getafe in Spain. The partnership applied only to the first series, and later versions were developed by each company independently, with CASA now integrated into Airbus.
