Boeing KC-767

Military Aircraft

The Boeing KC-767 is a military aerial refueling tanker and transport aircraft developed from the Boeing 767-200ER. It received the designation KC-767A after the United States Air Force first selected it to replace older KC-135E tankers, but that contract was frozen in December 2003 and canceled in January 2006. Italy and Japan each ordered four tankers, Boeing bore most of the development cost, and the aircraft were built as 767-200ER airliners and flown to a separate facility for conversion. Italy's first aircraft made its maiden flight on 21 May 2005, the first operational Japanese KC-767J was delivered on 19 February 2008, and the Italian tankers entered service on 17 May 2011. A revised KC-767 proposal was selected by the Air Force in February 2011 as the KC-46.
