Sukhoi T-60S

Military Aircraft

The Sukhoi T-60S was a planned Soviet replacement for the Tu-22M3 bomber, conceived in the 1980s. The supersonic intermediate range bomber never got past the drawing board, and very little is known about its technical characteristics, which remain classified by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It was believed to have had a variable geometry wing, a flat lifting fuselage and two engines fitted with two-dimensional thrust vectoring nozzles. The planned armament included up to six Kh-101 cruise missiles, AS-15 and AS-16 missiles, free-fall nuclear weapons and precision guided conventional munitions. Calculated figures give a maximum speed near Mach 2, a practical range of 6,000 km and a combat radius of 2,200 km. Sukhoi started the project in 1984 and it was cancelled in the early 1990s, so the T-60S was meant to succeed the Tu-22M in the Soviet Air Force.
