Caproni Ca.311

Military Aircraft

The Caproni Ca.311 was a light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft produced in Italy before and during the Second World War. It belonged to the large family of Caproni designs derived from the Ca.306 airliner prototype of 1935, and was more directly a modification of the Ca.310 bomber. Like its relatives it was a conventional low-wing cantilever monoplane. It took over the Ca.310 retractable main undercarriage and the heavily glazed nose tested on the Ca.310bis prototype, and added a dorsal turret moved to just behind the cockpit and extra glazing along the fuselage. From 1940 it began replacing the IMAM Ro.37 in service, a process finished the following year. The listed specification gives a crew of three, two Piaggio Stella P.VII radial engines of 350 kilowatts each and a maximum speed of 307 kilometres per hour.
