Eurocopter Fennec

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Airbus Helicopters H125M Fennec, formerly the Eurocopter AS550, and the AS555 Fennec 2 are lightweight, multipurpose military helicopters manufactured by Airbus Helicopters, based on the AS350 Ecureuil and AS355 Ecureuil 2 series and named after the fennec fox. The armed versions can be fitted with coaxial weapons, rockets, torpedoes and other munitions. The design centres on a light, compact structure suited to ships with helipads, such as destroyers and aircraft carriers. It comes as a single-engine variant, optimised for simplicity, reliability and low maintenance, and as a twin-engine variant with more power and redundancy for heavier missions. AS555 helicopters were delivered to the French Air Force between February 1988 and March 1994, and the Royal Danish Air Force bought twelve AS550 C2 in 1987.
