Kamov Ka-118

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Kamov Ka-118 is a projected light multirole helicopter with the NOTAR, or no tail rotor, configuration, based on a McDonnell Douglas design. The first test of the concept was on the Ka-26SS, a modified Ka-26 with experimental tail jet beams. The design has a single four-blade main rotor, a V-tail with an upper tailplane and a skid undercarriage, with the pilot and copilot side by side and four passengers in the rear cabin. As designed, it would use a 530 kW Omsk TVO-100 turboshaft and reach 300 km/h. Since 1993 no engine has been selected and the NOTAR design is still in research.
