Liverpool and Manchester Railway

Also Known As L&MR
Railways and Rail Transit Infrastructure

A railway line in the north of England, opened in 1830 and engineered by George Stephenson. It was the first railway to rely exclusively on steam locomotive power for both passenger and freight traffic on a double tracked, scheduled basis, rather than mixing steam with horse or stationary cable haulage, and it is widely treated as the beginning of the railway age proper.
