Submarine Pioneers

Inventors and engineers who built the first submarines, from Drebbel's rowed boat of 1620 to Holland's and Lake's boats of the 1890s and 1900s. An entry belongs here when the cited article calls the person a submarine inventor, builder or pioneer. It excludes surface ship designers and shipping magnates. Entries are placed by what their own cited article says, so each one sits in the narrowest group its source supports, and the group page lists it beside the other members.
