Fuji/Rockwell Commander 700

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Fuji/Rockwell Commander 700 is a light transport aircraft that was a joint Japanese-American development between Fuji Heavy Industries and Rockwell International. Design began in Japan in 1971 as the FA-300, and in June 1974 Fuji signed a collaboration with Rockwell to develop it as the Commander 700 for North America. It is a low-wing cantilever monoplane with a retractable tricycle undercarriage, powered by two wing-mounted turbocharged Avco Lycoming piston engines and designed with a pressurised fuselage for two crew and four to six passengers. The first prototype flew at Fuji's Utsunomiya factory on 13 November 1975, and when Rockwell sold its general aviation division in 1979 the agreement ended and Fuji took over the manufacturing and marketing rights.
