The DHC-6 Series 400 is the modernised Twin Otter offered by Viking Air of Victoria, British Columbia, which bought the type certificates for the out-of-production de Havilland Canada designs in 2006. Viking announced its intention to offer a Series 400 at the Farnborough Airshow on 17 July 2006 and confirmed on 2 April 2007 that it was restarting Twin Otter production with more powerful Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-34 engines. The major changes were Honeywell Primus Apex integrated avionics, removal of the AC electrical system, modernised electrical and lighting systems and composite non load-bearing structures such as doors. Final assembly was set up in Calgary, Alberta, and Zimex Aviation of Switzerland received the first new production aircraft, serial number 845, in July 2010.
