The Fuji T-3 was a primary military trainer built by Fuji Heavy Industries for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, a development of the four-seat KM-2 that combined its structure and Lycoming engine with the tandem cockpit of the Beechcraft T-34 Mentor, first flying on 17 January 1978. Fifty were bought and production continued until 1982, and the type served with the 11th and 12th flight training wings until it was retired in 2007 and replaced by the turboprop Fuji T-7. A 254 kW Lycoming IGSO-480 six-cylinder piston engine drove a three-bladed constant-speed propeller on an airframe weighing 1,120 kg empty and 1,510 kg at maximum take-off.
