Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (1904 to 1993) was a French-born Indian industrialist and aviator who chaired Tata Sons and the Tata Group from 1938 to 1991. Born into the Tata family, the son of the businessman Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and his French wife Suzanne, he founded several industries under the group, among them Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Titan Industries, Tata Salt, Voltas and Tata Airlines. For transport he matters as an aviator and as the founder of Tata Airlines, and as head of the group that also built Tata Motors. He received the Padma Vibhushan in 1955 and the Bharat Ratna in 1992 for his contributions to Indian industry.
