Durba Banerjee

Durba Banerjee was the first Indian woman to become a commercial pilot. She began her aviation career in 1959 flying a DC-3 for Air Survey India and went on to accumulate around 9,000 flying hours, becoming a commander on the Fokker F27 turboprop and later earning certification to fly the Boeing 737-200. As a child she was drawn to aviation and pursued the career despite it being a male-dominated field in her era.
