Cheridah de Beauvoir Stocks (1887 to 1971) was an early English woman aviator, a sculptor and a protege of the French aviator Leon Delagrange. She was born Cheridah Annie Ernst at Evercreech in Somerset, the daughter of a landowner, and in 1909 married David de Beauvoir Stocks. In 1911 she gained a pilot's licence, Royal Aero Club certificate number 153, flying a Farman biplane at Hendon Aerodrome. Grace's Guide records that she flew enthusiastically until 20 September 1913, when she was a passenger in a new Champel biplane flown by Sydney Pickles. Pickles crashed the aircraft and broke a leg, while Stocks lay unconscious for several days with back injuries and was left with a paralyzed right side, which forced her to give up flying. The entry is short, and the source gives no later biography beyond her death year.
