Transshipment is the movement of cargo through an intermediate port or hub before it reaches its final destination, used to change transport mode, consolidate small shipments into a larger one, or break a large shipment into smaller ones bound for different final ports. It usually takes place inside a transport hub's designated customs area so cargo can change vessel or mode without clearing customs at the intermediate stop.
