Pedestrianization converts a street or an area to pedestrian-only use, restricting it to people on foot or on human-powered transport such as bicycles and excluding non-emergency motor traffic. Copenhagen's Straeget, converted from car traffic in 1962 as an experiment, is one of the oldest and largest such zones and became a model other cities followed.
