Leyland Swift

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Leyland Swift was a midibus chassis made by Leyland between 1987 and 1990 as the successor to the Cub. It shared many parts with the Roadrunner light truck, but with the engine moved behind a front axle that was set back to allow a passenger entrance in the front overhang, and a six-cylinder Cummins B turbo-diesel was standard, with a choice of synchromesh or automatic gearboxes. Wadham Stringer sold many with its Vanguard II body, the Reeve Burgess Harrier was popular, and Wright of Northern Ireland built Consort and Handybus variants. It was only a moderate success in an uncertain UK market and was held back by a high floor.
