The Orion VI was a 40-foot low-floor transit bus built by Ontario Bus Industries, renamed Orion Bus Industries in 1995, between 1995 and 2003. It was meant as an alternative to the high-floor Orion V, and the partly low-floor Orion VII replaced both. Unlike rivals that put the drivetrain in an underfloor compartment behind the axle, it tucked the drivetrain into the rear corner so that the low floor ran all the way to the back. It was offered with diesel or compressed natural gas engines and up to three side doors, and in 1998 it became the first North American bus offered with a hybrid powertrain. Most were sold in Canada, to Toronto, Ottawa and New York City.
