Leyland Royal Tiger

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Leyland Royal Tiger was a rear-engined semi-integral luxury coach chassis made by Leyland Bus between 1982 and 1987, launched in October 1982 at the Metropole hotel in Brighton. It evolved from the conventional Tiger chassis to compete with foreign luxury touring coaches such as those from Mercedes-Benz or bodied by Jonckheere and Van Hool on DAF and Scania. Leyland mainly sold it with an integral Doyen body designed by John Heffernan, which had an aerodynamic front, a double-curvature windscreen, bonded double-glazed side windows, fibreglass end panels and aluminium sides, though the underframe could also carry bodies from other builders.
