Toyota Sora

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Toyota Sora is a transit bus with an electric motor powered by hydrogen fuel cells, produced by Toyota and developed in cooperation with Hino Motors. It uses components first developed for the Toyota Mirai, a mid-size fuel cell sedan. The name Sora abbreviates the words Sky, Ocean, River and Air and refers to the water cycle. The bus carries 78 passengers, and ten tanks holding 600 litres of hydrogen feed two sets of polymer electrolyte fuel cells that produce 116 kilowatts. A refuelling takes only ten minutes for a journey of 200 kilometres, where a battery electric bus needs about five hours of charging, and the bus can also act as an emergency source of up to 235 kilowatt hours of electricity.
