Leyland-MCW Olympian

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Leyland-MCW Olympian was an integral single-deck bus built by Weymann Coachbuilders of Addlestone for the Metro Cammell Weymann group using Leyland Tiger Cub mechanical units, a lightweight version of the Leyland-MCW Olympic. Western Welsh took one in 1954, 40 in 1956 and six in 1958, Trinidad Bus Service four in 1956 and Fishwick six in 1957, with a show bus and prototype going to Jones of Aberbeeg, one to Ceylon and a single left-hand-drive example fitted with a Pneumocyclic gearbox sold to China in 1958. Sixty were built and all had a single door. The name was adopted because Olympic Cub would have sounded plain daft, and Leyland coded the type HRC.
