Leyland Lion PSC

The Leyland Lion PSC was a bus chassis built by the British commercial vehicle maker Leyland Motors from 1926 to 1940. It was one of the first chassis designed specifically for use as a bus, with a lower frame that made boarding easier and, as a novelty, pneumatic tyres, which is why its type code gained a leading P for pneumatic; from about 1930 it was designated LT. Early chassis had a four-cylinder petrol engine, and from 1934 a newly developed six-cylinder diesel of 8.6 litres giving 94 brake horsepower (70 kW) at 1800 revolutions a minute was available, enough for about 70 km/h. Bodies came from Leyland itself, Alexander and others, and sixteen chassis were supplied without engines to English Electric and rebuilt as trolleybuses for Bradford. More than 4,000 were built, some staying in service into the 1950s, and the type was exported to Australia, Canada and Hong Kong.
