Ford York engine

Automotive Engines

The Ford York engine is an inline diesel engine that Ford fitted to the Transit range of vans between 1972 and 2000. The Transit used a 2.5 litre four cylinder version, and a 3.5 litre six cylinder version went into the Ford A series of light commercial vehicles; both were also sold as industrial engines with a long front crankshaft section for a power take-off. It replaced the Perkins 4.108 and made about 61 brake horsepower in four cylinder form and 87 in six cylinder form, both with cast iron block and head, a belt driven timing drive and a compression ratio of 22 to 1. Ford redesigned it in 1984 at a cost of 100 million pounds as the 2.5 DI, keeping the cylinder spacing and bore of the original block.
