Ford I4 DOHC engine

Automotive Engines

The Ford DOHC engine is an inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts, produced by Ford from 1989 until 2006. It was offered first as a 2.0 litre 8-valve engine and later in 2.0 and 2.3 litre 16-valve versions, and it was Ford's first in-house twin cam design to reach volume production. It was a clean sheet design meant to replace the 2.0 litre OHC Pinto engine, which had fallen behind in power, efficiency and refinement by the late 1980s, and apart from the inline layout and approximate displacement it shares nothing with the Pinto. Ford's technical reference calls it simply DOHC, some sources call it the Sierra engine and enthusiasts call it the twincam or twink. It was built at the Dagenham Engine Plant in London. It launched in late 1989 in the rear-wheel-drive Sierra, Sierra Sapphire and Scorpio, the last sold as the Granada Mk III in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and a transverse version arrived in 1991 in the front-wheel-drive Escort RS2000. Reviews were mixed: an improvement on the Pinto, but not the leap forward expected.
